46% increase in records of Saudi e-commerce activity

The Ministry of Commerce and Investment of Saudi Arabia revealed that the trade records of the e-commerce activity increased by 64% during 2018, with the number of issued records reaching 3192 records, compared with 1940 records in 2017, while the total number of existing trade records of the e-commerce activity reached 9148 records.
Riyadh topped the list of the most active areas in the issuance of trade records for the activity of e-commerce during the year 2018 by 1433 records, followed by the region of Mecca, which issued 817 records, and the Eastern region by 471 records source of e-commerce activity.
The ministry said that this growth comes in line with the reforms and improvements that the business sector has undergone during the past period and the procedures to facilitate the start of the commercial activity which the ministry worked in cooperation with a number of related authorities. It also linked with a number of government agencies, Work, social security, zakat, income and municipal license through a single electronic platform (Maras). The service also enables the beneficiaries to issue the registration certificate of the Chamber of Commerce electronically.
The electronic services included the possibility of modifying or renewing the commercial register through the use of the security verification mechanism with the Ministry of the Interior and the service of “Abshar”, and linked the electronic correspondence with 22 government agencies related to the start of business, and as a result of this link, currently provides more than 112 electronic services and licenses Starting a business.
