Rising inflation in the euro area

European Union statistics agency Eurostat said today that inflation in the single currency region rose in April by an annualized 1.7 percent from 1.4 percent in March.
Despite this rise, inflation in April remains below the European Central Bank’s target of 19 countries, slightly less than 2%.
If volatile commodity prices, such as energy and food, are excluded, the price of living rose in April by an annualized 1.2 percent from 0.8 percent in March. In recent months, slower growth and lower inflation than the target have raised concerns again.
