CPC to conclude its twentieth congress with the endorsement of a third term for leader Xi

The 20th Communist Party of China Congress, held only every five years, concludes Saturday, with President Xi Jinping set to get a third term as party leader and amend his constitution to be more reflective of his ideology.

The party’s 2,300 delegates will also elect a new Central Committee, which in turn will approve a new political office and its permanent committee, the party’s most powerful decision-making body.

The 69-year-old Xi is then expected to be confirmed as the party’s general secretary for a rare third term, in disregard of term and age limits that have traditionally been adhered to.
