ADNOC signs agreement with Thebes to develop project to develop Ruwais complex

MediaN 14 \ 05 \ 2018
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has announced an agreement to develop a new project with Spanish company Thepsa for the construction of a joint linear kerosene production plant at Al Ruwais Refining and Petrochemical Complex.
The new plant for the production of linear kerosene, which is used in the manufacture of detergents, coatings and cosmetics, is part of a number of initiatives announced by ADNOC and aims to expand its operations in the field of refining and petrochemicals, the company said in a statement on Monday.
The company said on Sunday it plans to invest $ 45 billion over the next five years to expand refining and petrochemical operations.
The Ruwais complex is at the heart of ADNOC’s strategy. The company wants to transform it into the world’s largest integrated refinery and petrochemical complex.
The agreement follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between ADNOC and Thibsa in November to assess the chances of establishing a linear kerosene plant at the Ruwais complex, the company said in a statement.
She added that the project will now move to the stage of preliminary engineering designs after completion of the feasibility study.
“The full linear kerosene production plant will be integrated into the ADNOC refining complex, enabling it to secure raw materials from kerosene and benzene and benefit from the range of facilities and services available at the Ruwais complex,” the statement said.
“The plant’s production capacity is expected to reach 150 thousand tons of linear gasoline,” he said.
Sultan Al Jaber, ADNOC’s chief executive, told Reuters on Saturday that the state-run oil giant plans to double its refining capacity and triple its petrochemical production capacity by 2025 as it looks to reach new growth markets.
ADNOC plans to expand refineries and petrochemicals in Ruwais by adding a third refinery to increase production capacity by 600,000 bpd by 2025, bringing the total refining capacity to 1.5 million bpd.
