Since the beginning of the second half of this year 2023, sea freight prices have increased by an average rate (24%), equivalent to $261 per 40-foot container, according to data and indices of the “Baltic Stock Exchange”, which measures and monitors levels of sea freight, across the most important sea shipping lines ( Pacific region, the Suez Canal, across the Atlantic Ocean).

As the data showed, air freight rates between the countries of the region (the Middle East) decreased slightly, between 8% and 12%, on most of the approved weights of air shipments measured in kilograms.

The average price of shipping a 40-foot container reached more than $1,538, as recorded by the Stock Exchange on January 11, up from $1,277, in early July 2023, an increase of 24%, and what it represents at a value of $261.

The average price of shipping a 40-foot container continued its weekly rise on July 7, to $1,290, while it fell in the following week (July 14) to $1,270, reaching the same value ($1,290), in the week ending July 21. Last July, to exceed $1,323, of the same month, continuing its upward journey to more than $1,442, on August 4, and continued until it recorded $1,538 on the 11th of this month.

With regard to the average sea freight rates across the most important shipping lines, the average container freight from East Asia and China to the western coast of North America, via the Pacific, amounted to 1672 dollars, up 10%, compared to the previous week, while it declined 13% for shipments destined from the West Coast. For North America to China and East Asia, to reach 475 dollars.

It rose slightly by 3% for shipments destined from East Asia and China to the east coast of North America to $2,667, while it fell by 12% for the same destination (the east coast of North America towards East Asia and China) to $518.

Suez

As for sea containers heading from East Asia and China, passing through the Suez Canal, to northern Europe, it increased by 31% to $1,655, while it decreased by 10% for the same destination, inverted to $338, and increased by 18% to $2,345 for shipments heading from East Asia and China. , via Suez, to the Mediterranean countries, while it declined on the same shipping line in reverse, by 11%, to 356 dollars.

Atlantic

The average container shipment, via the shipping line heading from the eastern coast of North America to northern Europe, decreased by about 1% to $534, while it settled without changing for the same destination, inverted, at $1,688.

And from Europe to the eastern coast of South America, it also decreased by 8% to reach $1074, while shipments destined from Europe to the western coast of South America increased by about 2%, to record container freight of $2697.

As for the air freight rates, measured in kilograms, between the countries of the Middle East region (that is, the shipment is between the countries of the Middle East only), the freight rates for weights, which vary between 100-1000 kg, decreased by 8% to $1.64/kg. As of August 6, compared to $1.78/kg, recorded on July 2.

As for the weight category from 100-3000 kg, it also decreased by 8% to $1.64, compared to $1.78.

It also decreased by 10% for weight categories between 100-300 kg, to $1.6, compared to $1.78.

It decreased by 12.5% for weight categories between 300-3000 kg, to $1.27, compared to $1.45, while it increased by 7% for weight categories from 300-1000 kg to $1.55, compared to $1.45.
