His Excellency Mohammed bin Hadi Al Husseini, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, participated in the joint meeting of the Finance and Health Ministers of the Group of Twenty (G20), which was held in the state of Gujurat in the Republic of India, to discuss the latest developments on joint coordination between the Ministries of Finance and Health during the year and what has been accomplished in this regard. The meeting was attended by the finance and health ministers of the G20 member states and the invited countries, in addition to representatives of regional and international organizations. The finance ministers attended the meeting virtually, while the health ministers attended the meeting physically in the state of Gujurat in the Republic of India.
The state delegation was headed by His Excellency Muhammad bin Hadi Al-Husseini and HE Dr. Maha Tayseer Barakat, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Health Affairs.
During the meeting, the UAE delegation welcomed the progress achieved by the work team during the year, stressing the importance of the team’s continuity in coordinating financial and health priorities while building on the most important results of studies and reports that have been completed.
The delegation also stressed the importance of studying the assessment of risks related to epidemics and the study of assessing funding gaps prepared by the work team, with an emphasis on the need to adopt a holistic approach in following up the results of these studies in line with the needs and capabilities of different countries. The members participating in the meeting emphasized the importance of coordination between finance and health in responding to health emergencies, and discussed potential ways to strengthen these mechanisms. They also reviewed the progress made in developing the framework for addressing health, social and economic gaps, and the risks resulting from epidemics, with the aim of realizing the areas that can be developed in the axes. Health and economic and the resulting risks, then members exchange views on funding mechanisms and gaps to respond to current epidemics, and develop the most optimal, effective and coordinated funding approach to respond to epidemics.
At the end of the meeting, the members renewed their commitment to the agreed priorities, and the need to continue coordination efforts between health and finance related to epidemic prevention and readiness to respond to them.
It is worth noting that the participation of the UAE in the three meetings this year held by the joint working group on financial and health affairs within the framework of the financial track of the Group of Twenty came with the aim of enhancing dialogue and financial cooperation.
