The opening of a bio-gas production plant at the cost of 800,000 euros in Jordan

Jordan’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, opened Sunday a biogas plant at the Jordanian-German University farm in the southern Shouneh with 12 kW of electricity and 600 liters of gas at a total cost of 800,000 euros.
The opening ceremony was attended by Ambassador of the European Union in Jordan Andrea Mathieu Fontana and the President of the University of Jordan – German Dr. Manar Fayyad and the representative of the German Embassy in Jordan Jim Spirberg and representatives of the parties helped to make the project successful and interested and representatives of the community.
Kharabsheh stressed in the opening speech the importance of the project, which is based on the analysis of samples of agricultural waste for the production of biogas and the generation of electricity from this gas and supporting the ministry for such projects which contribute to the enhancement of local energy sources and diversification and contribute to addressing environmental issues and opening more job opportunities.
He said that the national energy strategy aims to raise the contribution of renewable energy in the energy mix to 10 percent by 2020, noting that work is under way to modernize a strategy to raise the contribution of renewable energy in the energy mix to 30 percent in 2030.
And presented the economic and environmental impact of renewable energy on the economy of the Kingdom, and said it provides the national economy with added value and enhances its competitiveness.
Kharabsheh praised the EU’s support for energy projects in Jordan as part of a deep cooperation relationship between the Kingdom and the Union in various fields. He also reviewed the challenges facing Jordan in light of its limited energy resources and growth in energy demand as a result of the regional political conditions and crises in the region.
For his part, Fontana presented the cooperation relations between the EU and Jordan in supporting energy projects throughout the Kingdom. He pointed out that the biogas plant is important in cooperation with the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Jordanian German University.
“We are developing new innovative applications in two important sectors (energy and solid waste),” he said, adding that the EU’s support for green energy would boost investments, create jobs and help combat poverty.
The president of the University of Jordan – German Manar Fayyad said that the project reflects scientific research efforts through which the university cooperated with various institutions to make it successful.
And reviewed the importance of the project for the production of energy and pumping water from an important pilot project for agriculture in the region of Ghor, praising the role of the European Union and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in the success of the project.
