US stocks start lower

US stocks opened lower on Thursday, as investor confidence in the prospect of Sino-US trade talks progressed and a number of reports were awaiting the US economy.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 83.62 points, or 0.31 percent, at 26,851.45. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index was down 8.57 points, or 0.29 percent, at 2,983.50. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 11.18 points, or 0.14 percent, at 8,106.49.
