US stocks open lower

US stocks fell this morning, weighed down by a drop in the technology sector after a warning about lower sales from Apple.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 559.97 points, or 2.40 percent, to 2,2787.40, while the S & P 500 and Nasdaq declined.
Apple has taken an unusual step and lowered its quarterly sales forecast, as iPhone sales in China slowed, and Apple fell this morning by more than 9 percent.
