The US stock market opened lower today as bond market indicators signaled a renewed recession risk, erasing gains from the previous session stemming from Washington’s retreat from its latest tariffs on Chinese goods.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 244.83 points, or 0.93 percent, to 26035.08, tracking losses in the rest of the world major markets with disappointing economic data from China and Germany. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index was down 32.17 points, or 1.10 percent. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 139.03 points, or 1.73 percent, to 7,877.33.
