The Dow Jones industrial average fell 296.24 points, or 1.19 percent, to 24688.31 points. The broader Standard & Poor’s 500 Index shed 1.73 percent, or 46.88 points, to close at 2658.69 points. .
The NASDAQ composite index of technology shares fell 51.1 points, or 2.07 percent, to close at 7167.21 points.
