The UAE topped the Middle East and North Africa region on the “Global Rule of Law” Index for the year 2022, while it ranked 37th in the world, scoring 0.63 points on the general index prepared by the Washington-based think tank “The World Justice Project”. As the capital, the UAE is ahead of countries such as Romania, Greece, Croatia, Malaysia, Argentina and Indonesia. This year’s index covers 140 countries and territories, and is based on more than 154,000 questionnaires addressed to local families and 3600 questionnaires directed to lawyers and university professors. It also measures 8 elements: obstacles to implementing laws, the level of government openness, law enforcement and security as one element, civil justice, the absence of corruption and basic rights, law enforcement and enforcement, and finally criminal justice
