Thuraya launches an upgraded version of the voice communication service, a quantum leap in the field of tracking and monitoring marine fleets.

Thuraya Telecom has launched the new upgraded, multilingual version of its award-winning Thuraya MarineStar service for voice communications, tracking and monitoring in the maritime sector.
The new program MNB_2.0_ML offers a set of enhanced features that will allow ship operators to boost productivity, improve workflow and comply with international maritime regulations over a secure and reliable network.

The best-in-class MarineStar service since its launch in 2019 has seen incredible success in the international marine markets, with sales of more than 29,000 units. The MarineStar 2.0 service comes to upgrade the capabilities of the software with regard to the geographical scope of the ship’s field of work, as well as the coverage areas of the service, and it also includes new languages such as Farsi, Bahasa and Tagalog within one software package, which increases the number of languages activated on this device to 7 languages. The device also provides a new reporting feature that allows advanced two-way tracking of vessel movement to and from port by time, distance, speed and location. The innovative software can better locate fishing locations as well as track the duration of fishing activity. This feature reduces the risk of overfishing and ensures compliance with national and international regulations for sustainable fishing.

customer requirements
Sulaiman Al Ali, Chief Commercial Officer, Yahsat Satellite Communications Company, said: “Thuraya Satellite Communications has a vision that revolves around meeting customer requirements, which allows us to innovate and provide the end user with effective technologies that are affordable and tailored to meet the needs of everyday businesses. MarineStar 2.0 gives users a stronger and unparalleled competitive advantage in the marine communications market. Today, we continue to develop the latest technological solutions to contribute directly to the sustainable growth of the marine and fishing sectors.”
It should be noted that the fishing sector currently contributes 1.5% of the global GDP. The COVID-19 pandemic, ongoing international conflicts and climate change have demonstrated the continued need to provide fishing vessel operators with affordable, highly responsive communications solutions that can quickly adapt to changing circumstances. The design of MarineStar 2.0 addresses customers’ need for a qualified platform to increase business efficiency and productivity without incurring unexpected expenses.
Thuraya MarineStar is resilient in harsh environments, digitizing critical applications such as distress calls, fishing reporting and vessel tracking and monitoring. Its performance is further enhanced when combined with the Thuraya SatTrack web-based tracking and monitoring service. The SatTrack provides an easy-to-use online dashboard that displays data from Thuraya MarineStar stations, and enables reporting of fishing activities, which is critical to sustainable fisheries. .
