Sheikha Bodour: Our mission is to support the entrepreneurship system and develop the knowledge economy, Chairperson of the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park

Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Chairwoman of the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park, confirmed that the integration of the park with the Sharjah Oasis for Technology and Innovation project opens a new chapter in the process of strengthening the knowledge economy in the UAE and consolidating the country’s position as a global destination for entrepreneurship.

This merger brings together the resources and expertise of the complex and the oasis to form an independent free zone authority under the name of the Sharjah Park for Research, Technology and Innovation “Free Zone Authority”, and opens new doors to the great potential of the technology and innovation sector in Sharjah, and strengthens the position of the UAE as a global center for projects and entrepreneurship. As a result of this merger, the complex is witnessing a set of changes to keep pace with the structural, organizational and functional structure of the Free Zone Authority.

Since its establishment by an Emiri Decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in 2016, the complex has worked to enhance tripartite cooperation between industry, government and academic circles, under the supervision of the Business Company of the American University of Sharjah.

And in line with what was announced in Emiri Decree No. 9 of 2023 organizing the management of the complex as a free zone authority, and the decree establishing an independent board of directors chaired by Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, and it will assume the tasks of managing and representing the complex.

Sheikha Bodour said, “This step constitutes a promising development in the development process in the Emirate of Sharjah. Merging the oasis into the complex and formalizing its role as a free zone authority contributes to achieving greater progress in our mission to support the entrepreneurship system and develop the knowledge economy in Sharjah and the UAE.”

She added, “Under the supervision of the American University of Sharjah, the park has succeeded in strengthening Sharjah’s position and its role as a pioneer in innovation in the technology sector, and has created a vibrant and attractive business environment for more than 2,000 companies specialized in advanced technology, which have invested about $100 million in their research. This is in the process of consolidating Sharjah’s position as a leading global destination for innovation and entrepreneurship, and the formation of a diverse board of directors that includes elite experts to guide and support the vision of the complex represents an important step in this journey.
