Arab Economic Council welcomes UAE initiative to establish “Arab Group for Space Cooperation”

The Economic and Social Council of the League of Arab States welcomed the efforts and initiative of the United Arab Emirates to establish the “Arab Group for Space Cooperation” on the sidelines of the second session of the World Space Conference in Abu Dhabi from 19-21 March.
This came during a meeting of the Council today in Tunis at the ministerial level preparatory to the Council of the League of Arab States at the summit level at its 30th regular session scheduled for next Sunday with the participation of an official delegation from the UAE headed by His Excellency Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy. Delegations of Arab States with the initiatives announced by the State in the space sector.
The Council appreciated the role of the UAE and its contribution to the development of Arab cooperation in the field of space science and its uses for the benefit of Arab countries. He welcomed the initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. As the first cooperation initiative within the scope of the “Arab Group for Space Cooperation”, which received wide support from the delegations of Arab countries participating.
The delegation of the participating countries included Mohammed Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz Al Shehhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy for Economic Affairs, and Mohammed Saleh Shalawah, Advisor to the Minister of Economy.
His Excellency Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri said that the UAE, under the guidance of its wise leadership, is keen to support joint Arab action and promote Arab integration in various economic and social fields, especially those that are today the main axes of future development and building economies capable of keeping abreast of recent developments and trends affecting The most important of which is innovation, technology, the digital economy, scientific progress and knowledge, pointing out that the space sector is one of the most important and is an important pillar in future economies.
He added that the Economic and Social Council welcomed the initiative of the United Arab Emirates to establish the Arab Group for Space Cooperation and the announcement by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum that a satellite project for Arab scientists would be the first initiative of the group to reflect the wise leadership of the UAE. And its positive and fruitful commitment to support the Arab development efforts and advance the joint Arab action through effective and tangible initiatives that contribute to the advancement of the Arab countries and the prosperity of the Arab peoples.
Al Mansoori thanked the Economic and Social Council for its commendation of the efforts of the UAE and its initiatives in this regard and its call to keep pace with those initiatives and urged Arab scientists to engage in and benefit from the satellite project.
He praised the solidarity of the Arab countries’ delegations with the initiatives of the State in this regard, stressing that this step would establish scientific and practical jumps in the capacity of the Arab countries in the space sector and enhance their opportunities to benefit from it to support economic and social development in the Arab region. And expanding Arab resources in various fields.
