Abu Dhabi, June 22 / The UAE Central Bank revealed that cash deposits increased to 660.1 billion dirhams last April, an increase of 5.5% on an annual basis, or the equivalent of 34.1 billion dirhams, compared to 626 billion dirhams in April 2022.

And the Central Bank stated, in the statistics of the country’s monetary aggregates, that cash deposits increased on a monthly basis by 1.95%, equivalent to 12.6 billion dirhams, compared to about 647.5 billion dirhams in March 2023, while they increased during the first four months of this year by 3.9% compared to about 635.6. billion dirhams at the end of last year.

He stated that semi-cash deposits rose to 1.048 trillion dirhams last April, an annual increase of about 25.3%, compared to 836.9 billion dirhams in April 2022, an increase equivalent to 211.6 billion dirhams.

The Central Bank indicated that semi-cash deposits increased on a monthly basis by about 1.9%, or the equivalent of 19.4 billion dirhams, compared to about 1.029 trillion dirhams in March 2023, while they increased during the first four months of this year by about 8.53% compared to 966.1 billion dirhams at the end of the year. last year.

And “semi-cash deposits”, according to the Central Bank, are term deposits and savings deposits for residents in dirhams in addition to deposits for residents in foreign currency, while “cash deposits” are defined as all short-term deposits that a bank customer can withdraw without prior notice.

Central Bank statistics showed that government deposits increased to 421.4 billion dirhams last April, with an annual growth rate of 44.7%, compared to 291.3 billion dirhams in April 2022, an increase equivalent to 130.1 billion dirhams, while it increased on a monthly basis by about 3.4% compared to 407.5 billion. dirhams last March.

The statistics showed that the issued cash increased to 133.1 billion dirhams at the end of last April, an increase of 7.3% on an annual basis, compared to 123 billion dirhams in April 2022. The issued cash was distributed by 18 billion dirhams for cash in banks and 115.1 billion dirhams for cash circulating outside banks, by the end of the year. last April.

In a related context, Central Bank statistics showed an increase in the monetary base on an annual basis by 23.4% to reach 600.7 billion dirhams last April compared to 486.9 billion dirhams in April 2022, an increase equivalent to 113.8 billion dirhams, while it increased on a monthly basis by about 5.6% compared to 568.9 One billion dirhams in March 2023.

The monetary base includes about 202.2 billion dirhams for certificates of deposit and cash promissory notes, 75.3 billion dirhams for current accounts of banks and other financial institutions at the Central Bank, and 133.1 billion dirhams for issued cash, which includes cash circulating outside banks in addition to cash in banks, and 190.1 billion dirhams for the reserve account. .
