Saudi ports achieved an increase of 7.76% in the number of standard containers and 5.39% in transshipment operations during February 2023

The General Authority for Ports “Mawani” announced that its ports achieved an increase in the number of handling containers during the month of February of 2023 to reach 622,837 standard containers, an increase of 7.76% over the same period in 2022, which recorded 577,993 standard containers, as a result of the continuous expansion and development work that contributed to the increase container handling capabilities and enhance operational efficiency.
This comes within the framework of Mawani’s strategy and vision to promote a sustainable and prosperous maritime transport system, and to consolidate the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics center supported by reliable and efficient operations and a promising economic environment, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics Services.
The number of standard containers issued during February 2023 witnessed an increase of 12.75% to reach 194,157 containers, compared to 172,208 in the corresponding month of 2022. The number of incoming containers increased by 5.95%, reaching 193,937 containers, compared to 183,051 containers in February 2022.
Transshipment operations during February 2023 witnessed an increase of 5.39% to reach 234,743 containers, compared to 222,734 containers in the corresponding month of 2022; This is to use the latest technologies of remote handling and operation, and to launch a group of highly efficient logistics services in accordance with the highest specifications and international standards in the port industry.
On the other hand, Saudi ports recorded during the month of February 2022 a decrease in the total tonnage of goods handled by 3.13%, handling 23,089,455 tons, compared to the same month of 2022, which recorded 23,835,826 tons.
The volume of solid bulk cargo amounted to 3,879,366 tons, an increase of 2.90% compared to 3,770,196 tons in February 2022, while the volume of liquid bulk cargo decreased by 13.16% to reach 11,772,089 tons, compared to 13,556,831 tons in 2022, and general cargo recorded an increase of 77.20. %, reaching 639,843 tons, compared to 361,086 tons in the same period of 2022.
The total tons of foodstuffs recorded during the month of February 2023 decreased by 2.18%, and 1,646,900 tons of foodstuffs were handled, compared to 1,683,595 tons in the corresponding month of 2022 AD. Meet the needs of the local market.
February 2023 recorded the import of 81,600 cars, an increase of 33.99%, compared to the corresponding period in 2022, which achieved 60,898 cars. Maritime traffic witnessed an increase of 4.87%, recording 883 ships compared to 842 in February 2022. Saudi ports received 100,903 passengers, an increase of 61.16%. For the corresponding month in 2022 AD, which recorded 62,611 passengers.
It is noteworthy that “Mawani” aims to increase the capacity of containers handled in Saudi ports, which enhances its position in international indicators and puts it on the global trade map, with the aim of consolidating its regional presence, increasing the number of maritime link lines, and raising the performance of logistics services.
