Economic growth in Lebanon reached 1% in 2018

Lebanon was able to achieve real economic growth of 1% during the previous year 2018.
According to a Lebanese banking report published in Beirut today, this growth was due to the improvement of Rafik Hariri International Airport in Beirut. The number of passengers arriving and departing increased by 7.4% compared to 2017, which reached 8.8 million passengers last year. The tourism movement based on the increase in the number of tourists by 5.8% from 2017 to reach nearly two million tourists in 2018 and also improved the national export movement, which expanded by 4.4% on an annual basis to about 2.7 billion dollars until the end of last November.
The report also linked the improvement in banking as the assets of commercial banks increased by 13.8% year-on-year to reach $ 250 billion at the end of the past despite the decline in the productivity of some sectors including real estate movement in both construction and sales, The value of real estate transactions decreased by 18.4% to about US $ 8 billion between 2017 and 2018, and the value of the clearing checks, which indicates the movement of private consumption and investment spending by 2.5% between 2017 and 2018, as well as the decline of the port of Beirut, Number of data containers increased by 2.6% and the number of vessels increased by 1.9% and the amount of goods increased by 7.5% and revenues by 3.5% in the same year mentioned.
