The participants in the Conference on Technology, Innovation and Society (SAEFI Africa 2018), which concluded yesterday in the Moroccan city of Tangier, estimate the volume of Arab spending on information security to reach 9.2 billion dollars in 2018.
The three-day conference, under the patronage of King Mohammed VI of Morocco, organized by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Morocco and the Center for Indian Studies and Research, said that there is an increase in the level of electronic threats to Arab countries by 25% according to last year’s data. The participants called for the rapid adoption of a strategy to prevent the threat of electronic threats and raise the level of readiness to address them through the development of infrastructure technology sector and enhance levels of spending on information security.
They emphasized that the UAE is one of the best countries in the world in harnessing information technology in promoting sustainable development. It has established a high quality technological infrastructure that provides the best environment for attracting companies.
The conference highlighted the growing investment attractiveness of the technology sector in the Middle East and Africa through a regional technology hub. The technology sector accounts for a large share of total foreign direct investment inflows into Dubai. In contrast, By 4.5% during the current year 2018, in light of the reforms implemented by Egypt at the level of business environment and investment climate.
At the same time, technology spending in Kuwait has grown rapidly as spending on the IT sector in Kuwait has grown from a record $ 939 million in 2012 to $ 1.87 billion in 2017.
