Dubai hosts the 2024 World Library and Information Congress

The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) has chosen the Emirate of Dubai to host the 89th edition of the 2024 World Library and Information Conference, from August 19 to August 23, which is the federation’s main annual event.

Dubai’s winning of hosting this international event comes after the Emirates Libraries and Information Association, in cooperation with the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and the Department of Tourism and Economy in Dubai, presented the country’s file, making Dubai the first Arab city in the Middle East to receive this hosting, which confirms the leadership of the United Arab Emirates. A center for cultural and knowledge exchange regionally and globally.

Fahd Al Maamari, President of the Emirates Library and Information Association, said: The victory of the United Arab Emirates, represented by the Emirate of Dubai, to host and organize the International Federation for Libraries and Information Federation in its 89th edition, is a new global achievement to be added to the country’s record of achievements, which enhances its pioneering Arab and regional position as the capital of creativity. And innovation in various fields, pointing out that the conference represents an opportunity for international visitors to experience and learn about the cultures of other libraries, and for participants from the host country and region to immerse themselves in international libraries.

For its part, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions said, in a statement: “In recent years, and specifically with the establishment of the regional departments, IFLA has committed itself to being a global organization, and it is doing more to promote geographical and cultural inclusion in line with our core values, and after 95 years of Its establishment, we look forward to holding our first ever conference in the Arabic-speaking world, noting that IFLA, as a global organization, seeks to provide a space for exchange and learning between cultures and to listen to the views of its members.

For his part, Imad Bashir, Chairman of the IFLA Committee in the Middle East and North Africa, said: “We look forward to sharing more about the plans of the World Library and Information Conference during the upcoming event, as the participants will review the work of libraries in the UAE and the region in general.”
