Dubai Electricity joins the global Char-In and strengthens its commitment to developing green mobility

»

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced that it has joined the specialized global CharIN Association as a key member with the aim of strengthening its commitment to developing green mobility and green energy.

This membership allows the authority to consolidate its participation in setting standards for electric vehicle charging systems, and to develop new technologies that will improve the efficiency of green mobility, reduce the costs of charging electric vehicles, and increase charging speed.

The world’s leading association includes more than 320 members and specializes in promoting unified and approved standards for charging electric vehicles, such as the Common Charging System (CCS) and the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) for all types of vehicles.

Said Al Tayer

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, said: “In line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, and the carbon neutrality strategy 2050 for the Emirate of Dubai, and the strategic goals of the emirate in terms of sustainability and air quality, we continue to support the Dubai Green Mobility Initiative 2030, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which enhance our contribution to reducing carbon emissions in the transport and communications sector, and consolidating its position Dubai is a global capital of green economy and sustainable development.

He added that the authority’s continuous development of the “green charger” initiative, based on the latest technologies of the fourth industrial revolution in encouraging the acquisition of environmentally friendly vehicles, resulted in providing a strong public charging network for electric vehicles throughout Dubai, and increasing the number of electric vehicles in the emirate. The authority has completed the installation of more than 370 green charger stations, i.e. more than 680 charging points.

Class Bracklow

In turn, Claes Bracklow, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CharIN, said: “We are pleased to join DEWA as a key member of the Association. The Association supports the Authority’s establishment of an electric vehicle charging network using industry standards, and its contribution to encouraging electric vehicle charging and green mobility. In light of our expansion in the Middle East and North Africa, we pay special attention to the Authority’s accession to the Association.”

He added that the authority is a major player in the energy sector in the region, and the association will share its expertise and extensive knowledge of the region with the technical team from the authority. The authority will also cooperate with other members of the association to develop special technologies in various fields of electric vehicle charging, and enable the next generation in the fields of green mobility and energy.
