Dubai Electricity and Water issues its ninth sustainability report 2021

The ninth Sustainability Report 2021 issued by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority revealed the progress made by the authority and its important contributions to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030, and its success in supporting sustainable recovery and continuing to implement its projects in the field of sustainability during 2021 despite the challenges associated with the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. .

The authority prepared the report in accordance with the Global Reporting Standards Initiative (GRI), as it highlights the authority’s commitment to the ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact, most notably human rights, work, the environment, and anti-corruption. The report is also consistent with the disclosures of service institutions in the electricity sector to the global initiative. For reporting (G4).

His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, drew attention to working to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Carbon Neutrality initiative to provide 100% of energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050, through the implementation of world-leading projects. The most prominent of which is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex, the largest solar energy complex in one location in the world according to the independent energy producer model. Dubai Carbon Reduction Strategy 2021, which aims to reduce emissions by 16% by 2021.

The report includes 9 chapters, most notably climate change, sustainable development, water, energy, employees, customers, environment, society and others. The report is available in both Arabic and English on the authority’s website (www.dewa.gov.ae).

It is noteworthy that DEWA has issued its annual sustainability report since 2013, and it has established its position in this field by joining the golden community of the Global Reporting Initiative, as well as the “Standards Pioneers” program launched by the initiative and includes 100 international institutions that immediately adopted the new global standards. To prepare sustainability reports, as of the Authority’s fourth report on sustainability for the year 2016.
