Kirby: An upcoming meeting between the US President and his Chinese counterpart

John Kirby, coordinator of the US National Security Council, said that the US President and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping plan to hold a personal meeting between them, but the date of the meeting has not yet been announced.

The White House confirmed earlier this month that Biden and Xi had agreed to a personal meeting after they spoke by phone last July, but after weeks of rising tensions, the two superpowers have not yet set a date for this upcoming meeting.

“We are still working on the dates, venues and teams,” Kirby said, responding to reporters’ questions about whether there has been any progress on arrangements for the meeting between the two leaders.
