Sharjah Innovation Park inaugurates the first industrial 3D printing facility in the region

The Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SMRT) opened yesterday evening in the presence of Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Government Relations Department in Sharjah, the Middle East Intelligent Manufacturing Testing Center (MESA), and announced the joining of Amensa Technology Labs as the first of its kind in the region through a strategic partnership. To launch the first commercial 3D printing facility in Sharjah with the added manufacturing of the first industrial applications of its kind in the region.
This came during the third session of the series of innovative laboratory workshops launched by the Sharjah Complex for Research, Technology and Innovation, which was held under the title “the fourth industrial revolution.
Also unveiled during the session was the name and emblem of the business center of the complex, which was called “Sharjah Open Lab for Innovation (SOILAB)” as the first incubator for startups and innovative works in Sharjah in the presence of HE Abdullah Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy for Foreign Trade Affairs and HE Abdullah Al Fann Al Shamsi, Assistant Undersecretary His Excellency Hussain Al Mahmoodi, CEO of Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Complex, and HE Marwan Bin Jassim Al Serkal, Chief Executive Officer of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) in addition to a crowd of experts and specialists. Government and private sectors and representatives of leading international companies in the smart industries and 3D printing technology.
Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi spoke about Sharjah as a place for investment and innovation, highlighting the emirate’s potential to be a leading global center in the field of innovation, research and entrepreneurship and its vision to strengthen its position in the field of digital technology to become one of the smart cities in the world.
He added that this project reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah to invest in the innovative sector in the emirate. He pointed out that these innovative centers launched today are an indication not only of the smart industry but the smart investments that started to flow. To the complex, which is a scientific pride of the Emirate in its development.
On these new projects, Al Mahmoodi said, “We aspire to promote Sharjah as the capital of innovation on a global scale, pointing out that 3D printing will play a major role in the future of many sectors such as construction, medicine, aviation and others. Our world is changing rapidly and the possibilities are endless. At Sharjah Innovation Park, we look forward to fostering the concept of innovation by providing industrial companies with access to a wide range of 3D printing technologies ranging from 3D metal printing. Fahmi Al Shawa, CEO of Imenca, said cooperation with Sharjah is a major step for the region to promote three-dimensional printing technology. This technology is the first of its kind in the region, noting that there is a huge demand for 3D printing in the UAE.
The market for the manufacture of metal additives reached US $ 2.6 billion in 2018 and is growing at a rate of 20 percent annually, which represents a huge opportunity for this type of industry .. It is estimated that the total value of parts that can be produced using 3D metal printing will exceed $ 14.2 billion American within 5 to 8 years.
