Astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi spends 180 days aboard the International Space Station, during which he conducts more than 19 scientific experiments.

– More than 200 science experiments and tech demos will be performed during the mission.

Dubai, March 2, The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center announced the successful launch of the “Zayed Ambition 2” mission, which was undertaken by Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi to the International Space Station, and it is the longest space mission in Arab history.

The mission crew is now inside SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule, where it will spend about 24 hours in Earth orbit, before docking with the International Space Station.

On the occasion of this achievement, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, affirmed that participation in this mission is an important aspect of the UAE’s vision to enhance its contribution to future sciences.

His Highness said, “The participation of Emiratis in this space mission is a qualitative and influential step towards achieving our vision for future generations and strengthening their presence as a key partner in shaping the future.”

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan added that the UAE has an ambitious national strategy aimed at developing its cadres and qualifying them strongly to be at the forefront of the scientific exploration process.

For his part, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, “may God protect him,” affirmed that the country’s ambition in the field of space would leave a strong imprint befitting the name of the UAE. The second mission of the UAE was launched; To send Emirati astronauts to the International Space Station, from Complex No. 39A at Cape Canaveral Space Base, NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, in Florida, where the launch took place today at 9:34 am UAE time, with the flight arriving at the International Space Station on Friday, March 3. At 10.17 am, on board the Falcon 9 rocket of SpaceX.

After successfully carrying the Crew Dragon capsule, on which the mission crew is on board, to low orbit, the Falcon 9 rocket returned to Earth.

Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi will be the mission specialist, along with astronaut Stephen Bowen, mission commander, from NASA, astronaut Warren Hoberg, spacecraft commander, from NASA, and cosmonaut Andrei Fedyaev, mission specialist, from Roscosmos. The mission will be part of Expedition 68/69 to the International Space Station.

The concept of the expedition towards the International Space Station refers to the crews that are on board the station to conduct experiments and scientific research. These expeditions can include between 2 to 7 astronauts, and may last up to 6 months. These flights are numbered sequentially, and this sequence increases gradually with the increase in the number of flights in the future.

The “Mission 68” crew is currently aboard the International Space Station, and the crew consists of American astronauts from NASA: Francisco Rubio, Josh Casada and Nicole Mann, in addition to astronaut Koichi Wakata, from the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency “JAXA”, and astronauts From Roscosmos, they are: Dmitry Petlin, Sergey Prokopyev and Anna Kikina.

Today, we celebrate the successful launch of the longest space mission in Arab history, which is considered an inspiring vision for generations to come. “We are grateful to our wise leaders who provided us with full support, support that was a source of strength and inspiration for the MBRSC team in facing all challenges. Our mission will always be to raise the flag of the UAE high and remain at the forefront of countries contributing to scientific achievements.”

For his part, His Excellency Salem Humaid Al Marri, Director General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center, said: “After the successful launch of the second Emirati astronaut mission, and the longest space mission in Arab history, we have proven that our aspirations have no limits, and that we are capable of achieving the impossible.
