The Saudi Ports Authority has issued a unified license to operate in all Saudi ports to Maersk Saudi Arabia, a subsidiary of Maersk International, the largest container fleet operator in the world.
This is a continuation of the efforts exerted by the General Authority for Ports to improve the efficiency and quality of performance and services provided in the Saudi ports, transfer international knowledge and expertise locally, and adopt best international practices in the maritime transport industry.
The move also aims to provide an environment conducive to operational and logistic operations in the Saudi ports and to attract more maritime shipping lines in the field of maritime transport and logistics services, in line with the Kingdom’s ambition to become a major international logistics platform to link the three continents.
It is noteworthy that the General Authority of Ports has allowed through the application of the regulation of the work of the maritime agencies of the foreign investor to invest in the business sector of maritime agencies, and the license of Maersk Saudi Arabia is one of several licenses for a group of the top ten companies specializing in the maritime transport industry in the world.
The Saudi Ports, which are supervised by the General Authority for Ports, achieved significant growth in handling operations during the first half of 2019, registering an increase in total tonnage of cargo handled by more than 133 million tons, an increase of 4.32% The number of containers issued and delivered by 3.4 million containers increased by 9.22%, compared to the same period last year.
