The head of the General Authority for Ports, Eng. Saad bin Abdulaziz Al-Khaleb, revealed that the Authority is working in the coming period to make a qualitative leap in the management methods and the level of the operational performance and raise the productivity and competitiveness levels in the Saudi ports by reducing the container stay to 3 days by 2020, More than double the container load in 2030, as well as increasing the share of Saudi ports of transshipment containers, optimizing the production capacity within stations, and opening new horizons for promising investment and commercial partnerships.
The Kingdom’s maritime sector is witnessing increasing growth for the generous support received by our wise government led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Salman bin Abdul Aziz, Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, “God save them.”
Al Khaleb praised the efforts exerted by all relevant government sectors and the strategic partnership with the private sector to contribute to the achievement of the objectives and pillars of our ambitious vision 2030 through the optimal utilization of the Kingdom’s position and transforming it into a global logistics platform and a bridge connecting the three continents.
He pointed out that the nine ports supervised by the Authority began to reap some of the results of its services and initiatives launched recently, through the growing growth witnessed in terms of performance and productivity, stressing that the total port handled since the beginning of this year and until the end of February 2019, Over the same period of 2018, compared to the same period in 2018. The total number of containers exported and imported in the ports during the same period reached 1,131,959 million containers, an increase of 6.18% compared to the same period of 2018.
