Port Rashid receives an environmentally friendly European ship on its first cruise to the Middle East

Dubai, on December 29, Port Rashid received the European ship, MSC World Europe, earlier this week on its first cruise to the Middle East, coming from Qatar, after it was used as a floating hotel for fans in the 2022 World Cup, which is the most World’s most advanced, best-in-class low-carbon and fully equipped to be environmentally friendly.

The ship embarked on its maiden voyage for four nights, heading to Dubai from Doha, during the winter tourist season, which confirms the strategic position of Port Rashid and the Emirate of Dubai as the preferred destination for tourism and leisure in marine activities in the region.

The newest cruise ship of its kind, which carries more than 4,500 tourists and crew, led by Captain Marco Massa, was received by Essam Ahmed, Senior Director of Business Administration at P&O Marinas, a subsidiary of the DB World group.

During this tourist season, according to its schedule, the ship will make about 14 trips to Port Rashid, where the number of passengers will exceed 189,000 tourists to Dubai, which is gaining great momentum as the main gateway for cruise tourism regionally and globally.

The ship operates thanks to its advanced environmentally friendly engines with liquefied natural gas, as it produces low emissions of 99% less sulfur dioxide, 85% less nitrogen dioxide, and 20% less carbon dioxide, compared to ships that operate on conventional fuel. This makes it one of the world’s most advanced ships.

MSC World Europa is considered the best in its class compared to other LNG cruise ships, as it generates electricity from highly efficient LNG fuel cells that contribute to reducing carbon emissions. Fuel cells with a capacity of up to 50 kilowatts and solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology are used to produce electricity and heat energy from LNG that helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 30% compared to ships that use LNG fuel to generate electricity. conventional engines.

And Issam Ahmed said that the mooring of the European eco-friendly cruise ship in Port Rashid is an exceptional event and confirms the qualitative capabilities of the advanced facilities to meet the services of the most technologically advanced ships that require technical support in particular.

He added, “Thanks to the enormous potential of the Emirate of Dubai and its large investments in the tourism industry and its expansion in launching new stations for cruise ships, we expect the winter tourism season of 2022/23 to be more successful, bringing the number of visitors to Dubai to 600,000 tourists via cruises, which is twice as much.” The number achieved in the last tourist season.

For his part, Saud Mohammed Saeed Hareb, Assistant Director of External Operations at the Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai, said that marine tourism continues its momentum and plays a pivotal role in the growth of the tourism sector in Dubai, and the arrival of this environmentally friendly cruise ship is an embodiment of our tourism strategy that supports sustainability.

It is noteworthy that the luxury yacht marina in Port Rashid currently accommodates about 454 yachts, and includes places designated for berthing 19 luxury yachts of large sizes.
