China’s cultural sector grew by 8.2% year-on-year

hina’s cultural sector and its related businesses maintained rapid growth last year, according to China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The total revenue for the cultural sector and related companies totaled 8.93 trillion yuan (about 1.33 trillion US dollars), an increase of 8.2 percent year-on-year, according to a survey of more than 60,000 companies in China.
Specifically, seven of the nine sectors related to culture saw a rise in their business revenues last year, with three of them registering two-digit growth, according to the department.
News and information services recorded the fastest growth in 2018 with total revenues of 809.9 billion yuan (US $ 120.73 billion), up 24 percent from the previous year.
On the other hand, the revenue of creative design services and cultural transportation reached 1.11 trillion yuan (170 billion US dollars) and 1.02 trillion yuan (150 billion US dollars) respectively, up 16.5 percent and 12 percent, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics.
China’s eastern region remained the biggest contributor to revenue in the sector, recording 6.87 trillion yuan (US $ 0.02 trillion), accounting for 77 percent of total revenue last year.
West China’s cultural sectors also saw growth of 12.2 percent year-on-year, the fastest nationwide, according to the bureau.
