Emirates Aluminum International, Mubadala Investment Company and DUBAL Holding have officially laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art energy production and desalination plant at a cost of one billion dirhams at the Emirates International Aluminum smelter in Jebel Ali.
Emirates International Aluminum is the largest industrial company in the country outside the oil and gas sector and is jointly owned by Mubadala and DUBAL Holding.
The ceremony was held in the presence of Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of DUBAL Holding, Deputy Chairman of Emirates Aluminum International, Khalid Al Qubaisi, Member of the Board of Directors of Emirates Aluminum International, Chief Executive Officer of Aviation Industry, Clean Energy, .
The new high-efficiency power plant is expected to cut greenhouse gas emissions from power generation at Emirates International Aluminum facilities in Jebel Ali by about 10 percent. The emission reduction per ton of aluminum produced in Jebel Ali, which includes power generation and smelting Aluminum, to around seven percent.
Mubadala Investments and DUBAL Holding have established a joint venture to develop the new energy complex. Emirates International Aluminum is planning to buy the plant for 25 years after it starts operation.
Siemens, the German company, will be installing H-Class gas turbines in the new power unit, the first of its kind in the UAE. The project is also the first in the global aluminum industry to introduce the ” Siemens is a leading technology in generating power efficiently and effectively.
