The total value of cases before the DIFC Courts in 2018, including arbitration cases, rose to AED 10.2 billion compared to AED 400 million in 2017. The increase was mainly driven by external conflicts of large size.
This came in the annual statistics of the courts of the Dubai International Center for 2018, where the total number of cases 670 cases in all sections, showing an increase of 29 percent on an annual basis .. The total value of claims increased by 422 percent during the same period, which is a big leap In the volume of growth and an increase in the confidence of the business community in these English-speaking courts.
The cases before the court of first instance covered a wide range of sectors, such as banking, finance, construction, real estate and manufacturing, in disputes related to breach of contracts, failure to pay due dues, wills, proofs and employment issues. There has also been a marked increase in the number of cases being brought before the courts in 2018, with more than 60 per cent of the cases before the Court of First Instance coming from parties that have opted to go to DIFC courts to resolve their disputes.
Judge Zaki Bin Azmi, President of the DIFC Courts, said that the Courts of the Center witnessed a significant growth in 2018 in terms of the size and value of the claims before it … stressing that these results reflect the confidence of the DIFC courts and represent a court certificate as a jurisdiction And a testimony to the provision of an environment that the business community can locally and globally trust and an environment in which contracts can be enforced and dispute settlement settled fairly and expeditiously.
