Abu Dhabi hotels record strong double-digit rise in revenues in Q1 of 2019

Total hotel revenues in Abu Dhabi increased by more than 16 percent in the first quarter of 2019, supported by a number of high-profile events.

Latest figures released by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) revealed that events such as the AFC Asian Cup, IDEX exhibition, Special Olympics World Games, and the Retail Abu Dhabi (RAD) shopping festival boosted total revenues, which increased by 16.1 percent.

DCT Abu Dhabi said revenues were driven by a boost in average room revenue (ARR), which increased by almost 15 percent coupled with an occupancy rate of 79 percent.  Hotels also saw room revenue increased by 24.5 percent, while F&B revenues increased by 10.4 percent.

In total, 1,291,482 visitors were guests of Abu Dhabi’s 169 hotels and hotel apartments during Q1, a modest increase of about 6,600 over the same period in 2018.

For the first three months of the year, the figures also show Abu Dhabi saw a 2.1 percent increase in the average length of stay of all guests.

There was a marked increase for Hotel  guests from the US, up 13.8 percent rise in Q1, while average length of stays for visitors from the UK, China, India and Saudi Arabia also saw increases. Also, Q1 witnessed a 51% rise in visitors coming to AbuDhabi for leisure purposes compared to last year.

The Undersecretary, DCT Abu Dhabi said that hese numbers confirm Abu-dhabi’s strong start to 2019 and that the efforts and strategic planning are proving successful. The Q1 figures were without doubt boosted by visitors inspired by all Abu Dhabi offered in the first three months of the year.

The department will continue to focus on  key markets in the second quarter of this year, promoting more world-class events… The department is confident that it will build on its strong start to the year, and it look forward to seeing metrics in positive territory as it head towards summer.

The second quarter of the year is a reliable period for attracting tourists, with marquee events such as the Al Dhafra water Festival, the Jiu Jitsu championship and Eid Festival all taking place.
