The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) today signed an agreement with the government of Burkina Faso to provide a development loan worth 36.7 million dirhams ($ 10 million) to finance the construction of a solar power plant in Burkina Faso.
The agreement was signed at the headquarters of the Fund in the presence of Roche Marc Christian Kabori, President of the Republic of Burkina Faso. The agreement was signed by Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General and Alpha Bari, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Burkina Faso. The signing was attended by Khalifa Al Qubaisi, From officials on both sides.
The solar power plant contributes to the supply of electricity in 42 rural areas of Burkina Faso through the production of 3.6 megawatts of renewable energy benefiting more than 73 thousand people. The plant contributes to feeding about 4,300 homes, 21 health centers and 86 schools.
HE Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi said: “We are delighted to sign the agreement to finance a strategic project to support the energy sector in the presence of the President of Burkina Faso. The agreement embodies the keenness of the UAE and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development to develop bilateral relations in all fields, Is reflected in the achievement of sustainable development in Burkina Faso. ”
The project includes the supply and construction of 6 central power stations using solar and diesel hybrid. The project also includes the supply and installation of equipment to maintain the stability of the electrical network and civil works for the operation and maintenance of the electrical network.
The project is funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) in 2013 to support 350 million US dollars in renewable energy projects in cooperation with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development has been active in Burkina Faso since 1998. The Fund has financed two projects in the electricity, water and agriculture sectors with a total value of about 53 million dirhams ($ 14.4 million).
