54% of shoppers rely on e-commerce platforms. Food and beverage consumption increases during Ramadan

Trading revealed a significant increase in food and beverage purchases among commercial buyers in the UAE during the holy month of Ramadan. Tradeling, the simplified and easy-to-use digital platform for wholesale buyers, traders, trading companies and retail establishments, has collected many useful data about the most requested goods and the best-selling products during this period.

Trading data indicated the great activity witnessed by the food and beverage sector in the UAE during the year 2022, as purchases of beverages in it exceeded more than 1.1 million packages during the holy month of Ramadan, while various supplies such as vegetable oils and beverages such as soft drinks, dairy and eggs were included. The most requested product categories during the same period.

Various items of supplies and drinks maintained their popularity during Ramadan 2023, while the demand for eggs and dairy products has declined so far. Demand for Mabrouk vegetable oil, which ranked first among the most purchased products during the past year, also declined, with Janan paratha flour now topping the list of buyers.

The data also shows that about 54% of shoppers in the UAE rely on e-commerce platforms to find new ideas for purchases during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. Analysis of supermarket data in these two countries showed that the largest number of promotional offers and user interaction with them were recorded during the first week of Ramadan and the week preceding it, which led to an increase in sales of fast-moving consumer goods in the UAE by 6% and 11%, respectively.

The list of the fastest-trading items among the best-selling products during the year 2022 included food supplies, dairy, eggs, and beverages, as well as frozen foods such as meat and poultry, while Mabrouk vegetable oil ranked first among the highest-selling products, with 12,670 packages sold and about 215,390 liters. Sales of food supplies and beverages witnessed a significant acceleration during Ramadan this year, while sales of dairy, eggs and frozen foods declined so far, as Mumtaz Oil has become the most popular product among buyers, with sales of 8,198 packages and about 73,782 liters to date.

The highest spender

The concept of the month of Ramadan revolves around focusing on the spiritual and faith aspects without a doubt, but it has also become one of the highest spending seasons in the Middle East and North Africa region in view of the consumption habits related to breakfast and suhoor meals, as well as the values ​​of giving and helping the needy associated with it, as the level of generosity expands in this month to include preparing meals and distributing them to others across the country.

The FMCG sector, like other sectors, witnessed a lot of changes as a result of the global health crisis, as about 85% of commercial buyers confirmed the significant role that the health crisis played in changing their nutritional behaviors. Despite this, food and beverage sales are witnessing a significant increase at the state level, especially during the month of Ramadan.
