US stocks opened higher today as rising retail sales in July and strong results from Wal-Mart eased fears of a recession in the world’s largest economy, while various reports on the US-China trade dispute kept investors nervous.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 34.83 points, or 0.14 percent, at 25,514.25. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index was up 5.60 points, or 0.20 percent, at 2,846.20. The Nasdaq Composite gained 16.26 points, or 0.21 percent, to 7,790.20.
