His Royal Highness Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Governor of Makkah Al-Mukarramah Region, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Poetry Academy, appreciated the efforts of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Great Sharjah, and his initiatives in serving Arab culture, poetry and poets.
This came during a ceremony honoring the winners of the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Award for Arabic Poetry in its fourth season at the Jeddah Book Fair yesterday evening, where the House of Poetry in Sharjah was awarded the best project in the service of Arabic poetry, in the presence of a delegation from the Department of Culture in Sharjah headed by His Excellency Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Owais, Head of the Department of Culture in Sharjah. Sharjah, and Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Qaseer, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs in the department, and Muhammad Al-Buraiki, Director of the House of Poetry in Sharjah.
After receiving the award, Abdullah Al Owais said that the message of the House of Poetry, according to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, is to commit to supporting the cultural and poetic march by paying attention to young creative energies to achieve sustainable cultural development. Where the initiative and efforts of His Highness in establishing houses of poetry in the Arab world constituted a milestone in the cultural movement and the upholding of Arab cultural affairs .. stressing that Sharjah deserved the title of Capital of Arab Culture in 1998, Capital of Islamic Culture in 2014, and World Book Capital in 2019.
He added that the enrichment of the poetic scene is reflected in the organization of cultural festivals, literary evenings, intellectual seminars, the issuance of collections of poetry, the organization of cultural awards, workshops in meter and poetry performances, and the provision of specialized libraries to secure a suitable environment to raise the level of giving of creative and talented poets, in addition to awarding appreciation awards to pioneer poets.
Al Owais concluded his statement by saying: “The award of the House of Poetry in Sharjah confirms the success of this cultural project, which His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah attaches to unlimited interest and financial and moral support, as Sharjah has become, through its annual and periodic programs and its various awards, a major destination for intellectuals, poets and young creators who love poetry.
It is noteworthy that the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Prize for Arabic Poetry is an international award announced by Prince Khaled Al-Faisal in November 2018 under the supervision of the Academy of Arabic Poetry at Taif University in Saudi Arabia. in the service of poetry.
