The Ambassador of the Republic of India to the UAE has announced the launch of the RuPay Card – the local Indian version of credit cards – in the UAE, in conjunction with the upcoming visit to India by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Indian ambassador, in an interview with the Emirates News Agency, confirmed that the UAE is the first country in the Middle East to use the Indian credit card Rupai (RuPay).
He added that a memorandum of understanding will be signed to establish a unified technology interface in India and the UAE for payment platforms between the National Payments Corporation of India and Mercury’s local payment system in the UAE.
He said that the UAE is the largest business center in the region and the Indian community is the largest of all communities.
The ambassador expects the introduction of the Rubai card system to boost trade between the two countries and to boost Indian tourism to the country.
