An agreement between Masdar and Taleri Energya to develop renewable energy projects in Central and Eastern Europe

Media In Abu Dhabi, 15 January 2019 (WAM)
Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) and Taleri Energya, a Finnish company specializing in investment and project development in the wind and solar energy sectors, have signed an agreement to jointly develop renewable energy projects in Central and Eastern Europe, The World Future Energy Summit, held at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2019 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center.
The agreement aims to build on the continued success of Masdar and Taleri Energya in the Western Balkans and expand their collaboration through the joint development of solar photovoltaic projects.
Masdar and Taleri have decided to continue developing renewable energy projects in Central and Eastern Europe, given the expected growth of the sector in the region and the large number of opportunities available within it.
These include wind power projects in Poland, where more than 3 gigawatts of power are expected to be added over the next few years. At the same time, multilateral institutions have recently encouraged Western Balkan States to consider replacing a large part of their 9 gigawatt production capacity from coal-fired power generation with renewable energy, while Greece has announced plans to generate up to 2.3 gigawatts Energy from solar and wind energy sources by the end of 2020.
The agreement between Masdar and Taleri will reinforce the strategic alliance between the two companies in the field of renewable energy. The two companies have already developed a 158 megawatt plant in Serbia. The two companies have established the Bennouna Solar Company, which is constructing a 248 MW solar photovoltaic plant in Jordan, the largest of its kind in the Kingdom.
Masdar has expanded its portfolio of renewable energy projects in the Balkans through investments in large-scale wind-based projects. In addition to the Chippok 1 plant in Serbia, a source in 2018 announced that it had acquired a 49 per cent stake in the 72-megawatt wind power plant Kranovo, which became the second wind power source in the region
