Jordan and Egypt sign a cooperation agreement to exploit the gas infrastructure

Amman 21 Dhu al-Qi`dah 1444 AH corresponding to June 10, 2023 AD
Jordan and Egypt signed today a cooperation agreement to exploit the gas infrastructure in the two countries, according to which the Egyptian side will use the floating storage and gasification unit in Aqaba during the remaining period of the floating vessel charter contract.
The agreement was signed on the Jordanian side by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, and on the Egyptian side, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Eng. Tariq Al-Mulla.
The agreement comes – according to a statement by the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources – within the framework of joint cooperation between the governments of the two countries in the energy sector, in light of government directives and within the framework of the Jordan Electricity Company’s plan to reduce the operating costs of the Jordanian electrical system and enhance the security of energy supply in the two countries.
The agreement includes supplying the Jordanian side with liquefied natural gas from Egypt, and re-pumping part of the quantities of natural gas when needed to Egypt, through pipelines extending between the two countries.
