The United Arab Emirates ranked first in empowering women in decision-making bodies in the annual report for the year 2022, which is issued by the Center for Arab Women’s Participation Studies affiliated to the Arab Women’s Authority.

This came in a press release issued by the media office of the Arab Women’s Authority, yesterday, Monday, that the United Arab Emirates has ranked first in the Arab world in empowering women in parliaments and government for the fourth year in a row, which represents an Arab achievement that calls for pride and pride.

Lina Abu Bakr, Executive Director of the Arab Women’s Authority, said that the amazing progress achieved in the UAE’s ranking first in the Arab world and third in the world after Rwanda and Nicaragua embodies the care that His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, for the pivotal role of women in achieving the goals of sustainable development.

Abu Bakr added that the support and encouragement that women in the country receive from Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the mother of the Emirates, has made Emirati women a role model for success and excellence.

The annual report praised the presence of 9 women ministers in the government of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, equivalent to 33%, which is the highest in the Arab world. The country’s leadership also approved legislation that makes the percentage of women in parliament 50%, which is among the first in the Arab world and in the world compared to the Scandinavian countries.

In addition to the high percentage of women in the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the number of female ambassadors in the diplomatic corps, and the enrollment of a high percentage of women in the Diplomatic Academy of Dr. Anwar Gargash.

The press release added that the report noted a remarkable development in the size of women’s participation in several Arab countries, and was also accompanied by a significant decline and decline in participation rates in different countries known for their civil societies and cultural and political openness, such as Lebanon, Kuwait and Comoros.

The report expressed its appreciation for the steps taken by the Moroccan government in empowering women to hold important positions in the government, the adoption of a binding percentage for women in the Moroccan parliament, and the adoption of a national strategy for women.

The annual report also praised the development of Saudi women’s participation and their presence in the Shura Council by twenty percent, and the appointment of five women to the positions of undersecretary and university director, and three female ambassadors in the foreign service, all of which comes in implementation of the vision of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman 20/30.
