The UAE expresses its concern about the increasing risks of cybercrime in the state’s statement at a session of the General Assembly:

We welcome the cooperation between the United Nations and INTERPOL

The United Arab Emirates has expressed its concern about the increasing risks of cybercrime and the use of information and communication technology for criminal purposes, as organized crime groups and terrorists exploit developments in the field of digital communications around the world to target fragile infrastructure networks. In this context, the country stresses the importance of strengthening Coordination between the United Nations, INTERPOL and Member States in order to combat cybercrime.

This came in the statement of the UAE at the plenary session of the General Assembly to discuss item 127 (y) of the agenda on: cooperation between the United Nations and INTERPOL, and it was delivered by Lt. Col. Saeed Al Dhaheri, Police Adviser to the UAE at the United Nations, and the following is the text of the statement:

Mr. President: At the outset, I thank Assistant Commissioner Adriana Polaz for the presentation she made on behalf of the facilitators and sponsors of draft resolution (A/77/L.20) on “Cooperation between the United Nations and the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol)”, and thanks to Canada for its participation In facilitating the consultations on this resolution in cooperation with my country, we also thank Interpol and other delegations for supporting the negotiation process, as well as all those who co-sponsored the draft resolution.

In this context, the UAE reiterates the importance of this draft resolution, which welcomes cooperation between the United Nations and Interpol, as this organization plays a key role in supporting countries and providing communication between the national police forces through its global network, as it is the only international organization concerned with law enforcement over the Globally, and to build on the common collective achievements made so far, I would like to highlight the following main points:

First, INTERPOL plays an important role in combating current and emerging threats, including those posed by criminal and terrorist groups, which requires the international community to work together and cooperate with INTERPOL to prevent the flow of weapons and technology to these groups, including unmanned aerial systems (airplanes). march). That is why we are pleased that the draft resolution has addressed this important issue, as new technology has become accessible to terrorists and organized crime networks, making it easier for them to carry out attacks and drug trafficking. With this in mind, we encourage the international community to intensify its efforts to prevent the acquisition and use of these air systems and other weapons for criminal and terrorist purposes.

Second, there is a need for a comprehensive law enforcement response to enhance maritime security, which faces a wide range of traditional and non-traditional challenges, including piracy, armed robbery, terrorism, transnational organized crime targeting ships at sea, and human trafficking. Weapons, crimes in the maritime sector and fisheries. Therefore, the UAE encourages law enforcement agencies to make full use of INTERPOL’s capabilities, including making use of the global maritime security database in preventing and combating illegal maritime activities.

Third, it is important to increase cooperation between the United Nations and INTERPOL, enabling the development of joint programs and initiatives aimed at maximizing coordination and capacity building.

Mr. President: The negative impacts of transnational financial crimes are being felt all over the world; Rather, it took a different dimension as a result of technological development. In this regard, we acknowledge the importance of using notices and bulletins to inform current and emerging trends in financial crime, and the INTERPOL Global Stop Payment Mechanism.

Finally, the continued international focus on the implementation of gender-responsive laws remains a priority for the UAE, and for this reason, we strongly encourage initiatives that would strengthen cooperation between the United Nations and INTERPOL to enhance and popularize the perspective of women in law enforcement, as well as efforts to increase the number of women participating in the forces Regular police. I am pleased to announce here the graduation of the last batch of trainees from the Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Initiative for Women, Peace and Security last week, which includes women cadres from Africa, Asia and the Arab region, as this initiative continues to contribute to strengthening the response to the perspective of women in all security sectors around the world.

In conclusion, I thank again all delegations for their constructive approach, which helped the facilitators reach consensus on the text of the draft resolution. This positive result that we have reached is the result of a great preparatory effort that was made in cooperation with Interpol, and through informal discussions that took place outside the negotiating hall to bring opinions together. We believe that this success is a testament to the belief of Member States in the importance of INTERPOL as a vital partner of the United Nations in working to achieve the mission of the United Nations towards a safer world. In this context, we hope that the draft resolution will be adopted unanimously today
