SHARJAH, April 26 / The Emirate of Sharjah is participating in the “Arabian Travel Market 2023”, which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Center from May 1-4. In its new session, it highlights support for sustainability, achieving zero emissions, and exploring the development of travel trends. sustainable.

During its participation, the Emirate will showcase its competitive capabilities and innovative projects in the sustainable eco-tourism sector, open renewed cooperation opportunities with international tourism capitals and destinations, and strengthen its position on the global tourism map as one of the most prominent destinations in the region.

And as part of its vision to develop the tourism sector and promote its current and future projects for tourism in the emirate, the “Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority” supervises the “Sharjah Pavilion” in the exhibition, where 20 entities from the government and private sectors participate under its umbrella, including: Sharjah International Airport Authority, the Environment and Protected Areas Authority, and the Institute of Natural Resources. Sharjah Heritage and the Sharjah Awqaf Department, along with the Sharjah Sports Council, the Sharjah Club for Old Cars and the “Be’ah” group.

A group of hotel establishments, travel agencies and excursions in the emirate are participating in the pavilion, namely Sharjah National Hotels, Sharjah Airport Travel Agency (SATA) and Air Arabia, in addition to a number of distinguished hotels and resorts in the emirate.

On the third day of the exhibition, the Sharjah pavilion will witness a press conference in the presence of His Excellency Khalid bin Jassim Saif Al Midfa, Chairman of the Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, and with the participation of a number of officials from the participating agencies, during which the authority announces the latest developments in tourism projects and its latest programs, initiatives and activities to support the tourism sector in the emirate.

His Excellency Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, said: “Our participation this year in the Arabian Travel Market exhibition comes amidst the remarkable progress witnessed by the tourism sector in the Emirate of Sharjah, which was reflected in the hotel occupancy rate in the emirate, as the sector achieved a growth of 16 percent last year. % of the number of guests of hotel establishments in the emirate, which amounted to approximately 1.4 million guests from inside and outside the country, and the hotel occupancy rate reached 66%, supported by the huge diversity of destinations and experiences that the emirate offers to its visitors.

He added: “Including the exhibition’s agenda announcing the sustainability pledge and its focus on exploring sustainability in travel comes in line with Sharjah’s direction to adhere to an environmentally friendly future and expand the sustainable ecotourism sector and invest in this sector in several destinations that have already become among the active and attractive destinations for tourists who prefer this type.” It is one of the tourism activities, and we expect a prosperous future for it among the other tourism sectors in Sharjah.”

It is noteworthy that one of the most prominent aspects in which the growth of the tourism sector in Sharjah was reflected was the increase in the number of visitors from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries during 2022 by more than 161% compared to 2021, especially from the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, along with other countries from Asia and Europe, which indicates A promising recovery after the pandemic and the abolition of restrictions and precautionary measures last year, which was clearly reflected in the tourism and travel movement, which is expected to continue to increase during the next two years.
