The explorer “Rashid” will set off tomorrow, Wednesday, to the moon, the engineers of the Emirates Project

The engineers of the Emirates Lunar Exploration Project confirmed the continuity of monitoring the thermal, mechanical and electronic systems throughout the mission of the explorer “Rashid”, which will launch tomorrow, Wednesday, at 12:39 pm UAE time, from Complex No. 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Base, aboard the “Space” missile. X Falcon 9, carrying the Hector-R lander, from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA

A number of systems engineers in the project said that monitoring of the systems continues in full swing, before it is placed on the SpaceX Falcon 9 launch rocket, and until it lands on the moon, and that their work consists in simulation and intensive training on an engineering model similar to the final model, to ensure that The operation of all systems, from launch to landing, and then during the rover’s movements on lunar soil.

Engineer Ahmed Salem, Systems Engineering Officer, explained that most of his work in the Emirates Lunar Exploration Project is to ensure that all systems of the explorer “Rashid” work regularly and in a consistent manner, in order to achieve the objectives of the scientific and engineering mission.

Regarding the steps that precede the placement of the explorer on the launch missile, he said that prior to the launch, the explorer “Rashid” goes through several test stages, simulating in its appearance the space environment, where the systems administrator verifies that all systems can perform their work perfectly, without looking at Space simulations, for example, if the temperature on the surface of the moon reaches minus 10 degrees Celsius, then the systems administrator must ensure that the explorer can perform all its tasks even at a temperature of minus 10, or minus 20 as well.

He pointed out that the stage of placing the navigator on the missile also goes through a mechanical simulation, through which the ability of the navigator to withstand the vibrations generated by the launch missile can be verified.

Regarding the role of the systems engineering officer after the navigator landed on the moon, he said that there is a post-launch working mechanism, which consists in conducting several basic tests, in order to verify that any parts of the navigator are not affected by the launch phase, whether it is mechanically, thermally or otherwise. electronically.

Motion vector

For his part, Engineer Abdullah Al-Shehhi, Mechanical Systems Officer, explained that the main task of the mechanical devices is to protect all electronic devices, the main campaigns and the safety of the explorer, from the start of the launch process to the separation of the lander, until its landing on the surface of the moon, as we seek as a team to preserve On the safety of these devices from any shocks, any vibrations, and any heat from the surface of the moon, which may affect these devices and mechanical parts.

He added that the last operation that we perform as a mechanical team is placing the navigator in the landing vehicle, as well as conducting tests for the transmission, in order to verify the operation of the transmission, its movement mechanism, up and down, and how the wheels rotate in the navigator.

engineering model

As for the mechanism for ensuring the operation of the thermal systems in the explorer in preparation for its launch, Engineer Reem Al-Muhaisni, thermal systems official in the Emirates Lunar Exploration Project, said that the team is conducting intensive training using the engineering model, which is on the ground and similar to the final model, in preparation for the actual explorer operations, since launch, and even his arrival on the lunar surface.

Al-Muhaisni indicated that the thermal condition of the explorer “Rashid” is checked on a daily basis, throughout its journey from Earth to the surface of the moon.

The lunar coordinates of the landing site

The landing site of the explorer “Rashid” is of great importance, not only to the Emirates, but to the whole world, as it is a site that has not been reached by any scientific missions previously, which makes the Emirates proactive in providing answers to humanity, as the Atlas crater, located at 47.5 degrees north and 44.4 degrees, was chosen. degrees east, on the outer southeastern edge of the Mare Frigoris region, or what is known as the “cold sea” located in the far north of the moon.
