NATO admits planning to expand near Russia’s borders ‘several years’

The head of the NATO Military Committee, Rob Power, officially admitted that the plans to expand NATO’s presence near Russia’s borders “began several years ago,” according to what was published by the “Russia Today” website.

“We discussed the most comprehensive reform of our military structures since 1949, and we started planning for it several years ago, and now we are implementing it,” he said at a press conference held Saturday in Tallinn, after a meeting of NATO chiefs of staff, commenting on Finland’s and Sweden’s accession to the alliance.

It is noteworthy that Finland and Sweden on May 18 submitted an application to the Secretary-General of NATO to join the alliance, and the two countries are now awaiting ratification of their requests.

Twenty-four out of 30 countries ratified the two requests.
