The value of the trade of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi from aluminum and copper to AED 3.4 billion during the first two months of this year grew by 14% compared to the same period last year, according to figures released by the Abu Dhabi Statistics Center.
The trade of aluminum and copper accounted for 9.5% of the total non-oil trade of the Emirate during the months of January and February of this year, which amounted to 35.8 billion dirhams.
The strong growth in aluminum and copper trade reflects the high level of activity in the economic sectors associated with these commodities in the emirate and the UAE in general since the beginning of 2019.
The aluminum and copper industry is considered one of the most important industries in the emirate due to its association with a wide range of economic activities, mainly construction, real estate and other activities.
The value of Abu Dhabi’s aluminum exports rose to 1.1 billion dirhams from January to the end of February 2019, up 2 percent from 980 million dirhams in the same period in 2018.
The value of re-exports of the same metal amounted to 16.5 million dirhams in the period from January to February of this year, a growth of 3% compared to 16 million dirhams in the same period of 2018.
On the import side, it reached AED 65 million in January and February compared to AED 102 million in the same period of 2018.
While the value of imports of copper from Abu Dhabi reached 1.45 billion dirhams in January and February of this year, the value of re-exports of the same metal reached 11.5 million dirhams and exports 770 million dirhams.
