Hamdan bin Rashid inaugurates the 2019 World Green Economy Summit

HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Chairman of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), will inaugurate the sixth edition of the World Green Economy Summit, which will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center under the slogan “Innovative Technologies for a Sustainable Economy”.
The two-day summit, organized by DEWA and the World Green Economy Organization, will focus on three main themes: sustainable development mechanisms and international cooperation to promote the green economy and adopt innovative green solutions.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Deputy Chairman of Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Managing Director of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Chairman of the World Green Economy Summit, said that the objectives of the summit are in line with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Aiming to promote sustainable development in the UAE in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and the UAE 2071 Centennial which aims to be the best country in the world by 2071, UAE Vision 2021, Dubai Plan 2021 and Dubai Energy Strategy Goals 2050 FH, which aims to produce 7% of the total energy in Dubai from clean energy by 2020 and 25% by 2030 and 75% by 2050.
His Excellency said that Dubai is an active contributor and a major pole in presenting ideas, experiences and initiatives to create a better future for mankind based on the emirate’s position and efforts as the global capital of the green economy in the world.
The first day of the World Green Economy Summit 2019 will focus on aligning energy policy with the SDGs, highlighting the significant workload required to build a sustainable future, and participants will exchange views on successful sustainability strategies, systems and policies, their replicability and scaling up, as well as the role of women. To achieve a green economy through innovation, cooperation, transparency, environmental management and social solidarity, these qualities are usually considered soft skills, especially in the field of environmental sustainability and sustainable development. A global green economy challenges and opportunities facing women in the field of sustainability, highlighting a variety of women working in this field in sectors such as energy, water, finance and development.
By engaging young people in sustainability before entering the labor market, they can make more informed choices and draw the attention of companies that sustainability is something that must be taken seriously if they are to recruit the best talent. These sessions will encourage young people to engage in sustainable development and the green economy. The first day will witness a panel discussion on the green economy in the presence of experts in the sector.
The second day of the World Green Economy Summit, which will see the Dubai 2019 Declaration, will highlight the sustainability of the private sector, green banking, investments, challenges and solutions for the green economy and sustainable agriculture.
The sixth session of the Summit will be attended by a number of current presidents, leaders and influential figures at the global level.
A number of ministers, senior government officials, decision-makers, international consultants in the field of green economy, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations are participating in the summit discussions aimed at finding solutions to promote the green economy, achieving sustainable development goals and meeting the challenges of climate change. Felipe Calderon, former Mexican President, His Excellency Juan Manuel Santos, former President of Colombia, His Excellency Julia Gillard, former Prime Minister of Australia, and His Excellency Aweys Sarmad, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations Rayya on climate change and HE Mariam girl Mohammed Saeed Hareb Al Muhairi, Minister of State responsible for future food security and HE Eng Awaidah Morshed Murar Head of Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi and HE Dr. Aisha girl Butti Bin Bishr, Director General of Dubai Smart Office file.
Jonathan Young, Chairman of the New Zealand Economic Development, Science and Innovation Committee, Tareq Ibrahim, former Minister of Environment and Energy of the Maldives, Director of Jidoor Consulting, Dr. Waddah Ghanim Al Hashimi, Senior Director of ENOC, Sustainability and Commercial Excellence, and Dr. Habiba Marashli, Founding Member and Chairman of the Emirates Working Group Environment and Andreas Space, co-founder and CEO of Solar Kiosk, Germany, comes at a time when the summit provides a leading platform for dialogue, partnerships and the exchange of ideas and experiences.
The current session attracts over 3,700 experts, specialists and opinion leaders in various fields of green economy and sustainable development, including CEOs, partners, financial institutions and representatives of global markets from 78 countries, with 60 keynote speakers participating in 14 seminars and panel discussions.
