The Department of Energy launches a project to enhance the safety of liquefied petroleum gas systems in Abu Dhabi buildings

Abu Dhabi, August 8 / The Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi launched a project to enhance the safety of central liquefied petroleum gas systems in residential and commercial buildings in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with the concerned government agencies.

The project falls within the department’s keenness to enhance community safety and preserve property in the emirate in accordance with best national and international practices. A large-scale inspection campaign has been launched targeting about 2,800 buildings in Abu Dhabi and will continue over the next six months, which started from July 2023.

The campaign focuses on conducting a comprehensive examination of liquefied petroleum gas filling lines, safety equipment, as well as gas systems in buildings and residential units connected to them. In the examination, special devices are used to verify the efficiency of the central liquefied gas tanks, detect gas leaks and determine the need for any necessary safety-related upgrades. With the completion of the inspection campaign, the department issues the first certificate of conformity for the liquefied petroleum gas systems, valid for one year, without fees, which confirms that the building meets the requirements of security and safety in the gas systems.

The field survey and inspection aims to identify problems related to the safety of liquefied petroleum gas systems, in order to address them in order to rise to acceptable safety standards in order to issue a certificate of conformity for liquefied petroleum gas systems.

It is the responsibility of the building owners to ensure the effective operation of the gas systems, periodic maintenance and annual inspection to renew the conformity certificate in accordance with the requirements of the new Energy Department, or they will be subject to fines or legal action.

At least a week prior to the inspection, building owners and facility managers will receive inspection notices that must be displayed at the entrance of the building to notify tenants and facilitate access for inspectors when carrying out their duties to ensure the integrity of gas sensors and supplies.

On the other hand, the department will launch an intensive campaign, through its media platforms and social media, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of the safety of installing central liquefied petroleum gas, promoting responsible behavior and encouraging the reporting of any safety concerns.

The campaign will include publishing press releases, visual and photographic materials, in addition to sending short text messages to building residents and owners, and holding direct coordination meetings with stakeholders and relevant authorities.
