The Iraqi parliament elected Abdul Latif Rashid as president of the republic by 162 votes, in the second round held by parliament, Thursday, to elect the president of the republic, while his rival, the outgoing president, Barham Salih, obtained 99 votes, while 8 papers were considered null.
Abdellatif Rashid is the fifth president since 2003 and the fourth to belong to the National Union. His biography reveals that he was born in August 1944, and is 78 years old. He began his political activity in the sixties of the last century, when he joined the Kurdistan Democratic Party.
