Russia said on Thursday that the United States was benefiting from the disruption of two Nord Stream gas pipelines under the Baltic Sea, in comments that escalate a war of words with the West over responsibility for the damage to the two pipelines, which has not yet been explained.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a news conference that the United States would be able to increase sales of liquefied natural gas if the Nord Stream pipelines were permanently discontinued.
The European Union is investigating the cause of leaks in the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines of Russia’s Gazprom, and said it suspected sabotage.
