Samsung said it aims to make some of the world’s most advanced semiconductors within five years, as the race heats up between the South Korean electronics giant and the world’s largest chip maker TSMC.
The company laid out a roadmap for its chip production plans, and said it would start making 2-nanometer chips in 2025 and 1.4-nanometer chips in 2027.
The nanometer refers to the size of each individual transistor on the chip. The smaller the transistor, the more of it can be placed on one chip. Typically, reducing the nanometer size can result in more powerful and efficient chips.
